Country View Owner Works As Nursing Assistant

From L to R: Audrianna "Audri" Withem, Bob Speelman, Lauren Limbacher

December 7, 2017
NOTE: The following story is from the blog of Bob Speelman, owner of Atlas Healthcare Solutions, and Country View of Sunbury. Each week Bob works as a nursing assistant at one of his facilities in order to better live out his company motto - "Supporting Superior Care."
This week my journey as an nursing assistant took me to Country View of Sunbury, our 120 bed nursing home in Sunbury, Ohio. Lauren Limbacher is the Administrator at Country View, and she is doing a tremendous job there. I was able to work alongside Audrianna Withem, or as everyone calls her, “Audri.” Audri has worked at Country View for almost four years now. She has a 9 year old son, and is 6 months pregnant with a baby girl.

As Audri and I worked together throughout the day I was impressed with the love and care she showed each and every one of her residents. She must have told me a dozen times, “He’s my favorite,” or “She’s my favorite.” For Audri, everyone is her favorite. And it shows. She simply loves every resident at the facility.

Audri was raised by her Aunt who had five children of her own. She went to live with her Aunt because her mom was an alcoholic and her dad was a heroin addict. Audri has had her share of pain but has never allowed what she has gone through to defeat her. We have a choice in life in how we respond to the difficult things, they can make us bitter or better. Audri chose to become a stronger and more compassionate person because of those things.

Audri got into being a nursing assistant because her aunt is a home health aide. She would often go with her to the homes of her clients, and was consistently around it. She enjoyed talking to and visiting with the elderly at their home. Audri said she thought she wanted to become a nurse but isn’t sure now if that’s what she wants to do or not. Audri loves being a nursing assistant and making a difference in the lives of her residents.

I have heard that in Japanese culture, when an object became broken, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when something has suffered damage, and has a history, it becomes more beautiful.

I saw gold yesterday. Beautiful gold that was poured into the pain and cracks that Audri suffered early on in her life. But Audri doesn’t allow the pains and cracks that she was dealt define her. Audri’s story and her history touched my heart. Audri, I am so thankful I got to meet you and hear your story and how your took the brokenness you were given and made something wonderful out of it. Your love and compassion for our residents is amazing. It is truly an honor and a privilege to have you on our team!

With much gratitude,

Bob Speelman, STNA
